CHICAGO (AP) — Days earlier than heading to her fourth World Cup, Megan Rapinoe introduced Saturday she’ll retire on the finish of the Nationwide Ladies’s Soccer League season.

Rapinoe, 38, made the announcement on Twitter, saying she “by no means may have imagined the methods wherein soccer would form & change my life endlessly.”

It’s with a deep sense of peace & gratitude that I’ve determined this will likely be my remaining season enjoying this stunning sport. “It’s with a deep sense of peace & gratitude that I’ve determined this will likely be my remaining season enjoying this stunning sport,” the Olympic gold medalist and two-time World Cup champion stated.

The U.S. group is aiming for a 3rd consecutive title when the Ladies’s World Cup kicks off on July 20 in Australia and New Zealand.
