Jayson Tatum reached out to the NBA out of concern for his former Duke teammate Harry Giles III, and it resulted in a brand new rule within the NBA’s collective bargaining settlement, based on Chris Haynes, of Bleacher Report.
The rule, which is informally named after Giles, will let gamers who miss a complete season maintain that yr from counting towards the three-year most service for two-way eligibility.
Knee accidents sidelined Giles for everything of his rookie season in 2018. He’s now on a two-way contract with the Clippers, which he wouldn’t have been eligible for beneath the previous CBA.
The earlier rule was that solely gamers with lower than 4 years of NBA service had been eligible for two-way contracts. Although he missed his first season, Giles has technically been on an NBA roster for 4 seasons.
Giles’ agent contested the bylaw, and the rule ended up getting modified.
