The summer season of MBTA reductions is coming to an finish because the Sumner Tunnel reopens Sept. 1.

The Sumner Tunnel is lastly reopening on Friday after almost two months.

Which means a reprieve from crippling site visitors congestion on alternate routes — and a reinstatement of regular fare assortment on the MBTA after two months of free or discounted rides in the course of the Sumner repairs.

Starting Sept. 1, the MBTA will return to charging regular fares on the Blue Line, which has been free to journey since July 5.

Regular fares may even be reinstated on the Commuter Rail’s Newburyport/ Rockport Line, the East Boston, Lynn, and Winthrop ferries, Bus routes 111, 112, 114, 116, 117, and SL3, and the RIDE. Parking charges and tolls on the Tobin Bridge and Ted Williams Tunnel will return to regular, too.

The T is advising riders to fill their CharlieCards and CharlieTickets prematurely for quicker boarding.

REMINDER: Common fare assortment resumes systemwide tomorrow, September 1. All fare mitigations for @MassDOT Sumner Tunnel closure & systemwide gradual zones will finish.
