South Boston girl, 40, dies after scuba diving off Rockport

A South Boston girl died two days after having “problem” whereas scuba diving off Rockport over the weekend, officers mentioned. 

Rockport police have been notified late Saturday afternoon of a possible drowning close to the Dry Salvages rock mount, about two miles offshore, the Essex District Lawyer’s Workplace mentioned in a press launch. 

The girl, 40-year-old Sara Elizabeth Nivens, had gone scuba diving along with her father in a constitution boat, the DA’s workplace mentioned. She was helped again onto the boat, which later docked at T-Wharf in Rockport.

The Gloucester Each day Instances reported that there was a gaggle of about 10 divers on the diving tour Saturday afternoon. A misery sign went out on the time of the incident, in keeping with the newspaper.

“We responded to a mayday name on Channel 16 for a diver who was unresponsive,” Rockport Harbormaster Rosemary Lesch advised the Gloucester Each day Instances Monday. “The diver got here up and she or he was unresponsive.”

Lesch advised the newspaper that fellow divers have been performing CPR when she and a fellow harbormaster arrived on the scene. 

Nivens was taken to Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester and later transferred to the Lahey Hospital and Medical Heart in Burlington, in keeping with the DA’s workplace. She was pronounced lifeless on Monday. 

The Rockport Police Division, Massachusetts State Police Dive Crew, and state police  detectives with the DA’s workplace are investigating the incident, in keeping with the press launch.
