Faculty officers at King Philip Regional Excessive Faculty are taking motion after an investigation discovered that upperclassmen soccer gamers hazed youthful gamers throughout a summer time soccer camp in Maine. 

In a joint letter to households, Superintendent Wealthy Drolet and Principal Nicole Bottomley stated the investigation discovered that the upperclassmen compelled Tenth-grade gamers to take part in boxing matches organized by the upperclassmen. 

The camp passed off at Camp Mataponi in Naples from Aug. 22 to 27, faculty officers for the Wrentham-based district stated. Directors stated they discovered of the “troubling and disappointing” incident after the camp concluded.

Faculty officers rapidly launched an investigation into the incident and interviewed gamers, their households, and coaches. The investigation discovered that what occurred on the camp met each the authorized definition of hazing and hazing as outlined by the district’s handbook, directors stated. 

“Particularly, we centered on ‘…compelled bodily exercise which is more likely to adversely have an effect on the bodily well being or security of any such pupil or different particular person,’” faculty officers wrote within the letter.

No coaches had been current through the boxing matches, and no accidents had been reported, directors stated. Wrentham police had been notified of the incident.

Directors stated within the letter that they’re organizing necessary management coaching for all coaches and captains, in addition to hazing and bystander coaching for all gamers and coaches. Moreover, they’re contemplating whether or not they’ll approve any offsite camps sooner or later. 

“We want to stress to the complete KP group that we take all studies and incidents of hazing very critically,” the letter reads. “We is not going to tolerate any type of bullying, harassment, or hazing. We goal to foster an inclusive, welcoming atmosphere, and the actions of these on the soccer camp utterly contradict the work we try to do.” 

King Philip Regional Excessive Faculty serves college students from Wrentham, Norfolk, and Plainville.
